Hofstra University is a private university located in Hempstead, New York. It is the largest private university on Long Island and was founded in 1935 as an extension of New York University. Originally, the institution was known as Nassau College – Hofstra Memorial of New York University. Today, Hofstra is home to more than 25,000 students.

The university is comprised of several colleges and schools, including the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, and the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication. There are also schools dedicated to education and engineering and Applied Science.

Hofstra University is one of the more prestigious schools in the US.
